the last scene where the father questions God is memorable. I wonder why the parents don't ask a man to ride with the daughter. Ingmar said he never wanted to send a message in his film, but this one has. Ingmar didn't use music to serve the drama much. He uses instinct too much
This might be one of the simplest Bergmanian films but simplicity is not necessarily bad, in fact everything is carefully assigned with meaning, and it is better to analyze the film on a symbolic and allegorical level. btw have to give credit to the cinematography, it is amazing.
